Speaking Up for Your
Needs in Healthcare

Advocating for Accommodations During Medical Appointments

Know Your Rights

Under Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), you have the right to ask for accommodations in healthcare settings.

Examples of some Accommodations present

  • Wheelchair-accessible exam tables

  • Extra time for appointments or assessments

  • Information in plain language or alternate formats

  • Support person or interpreter present

  • Everyone will have unique needs-there's no one-size-fits-all approach to accessibility.
What matters most is that your care reflects your reality

  • Self-advocacy isn't asking for special treatment, it's about ensuring your care works for you.
